Jaroslav in Caen

Our colleague Jaroslav Aubrecht was at the Laboratoire Catalyse & Spectrochimie at the Université de Caen Normandie in France, under the supervision of Marco Daturi as part of his international research stay.

His research focuses on the surface characterization of heterogeneous catalysts. Using probe molecules such as CO, NO, pyridine, and N2O, he investigates the nature of surface active sites. These molecules selectively interact with specific surface species, allowing their interactions to be monitored by infrared spectroscopy.

Of course, the research stay abroad was about much more than science. It was also an opportunity to experience a different culture, build new friendships, and enjoy local traditions. Over the past three months, Jaroslav explored the beautiful Normandy region - from Bayeux to Étretat - tasted its renowned cuisine, played pétanque in the grounds of Caen Castle, celebrated the Fête de la Musique, or supported the home team (understood as France) in the World Cup till their last match. Well, not bad for just a couple of weeks!
